Hello and welcome! My name is Jeff Wignall and I'm a travel photographer and writer and the author of several photo books, including The Joy of Digital Photography (Lark Books, 2006), The Kodak Most Basic Book of Digital Photography (Lark Books, 2006) and The Kodak Guide to Shooting Great Travel Pictures (Fodors Travel Publications).
Probably my favorite thing to do is to travel to pretty or interesting places and spend days--or even weeks--photographing them. In fact, the truth is that the only time that I'm really happy is when I'm traveling to a fun place and I have something beautiful or unusual to photograph. Give me a shoulder bag full of cameras, a lot of memory cards and a beautiful rock formation at sunset and I'm a happy camper. (By the way, the rock formation show here was shot near the Valley of the Gods in southern Utah.)
Over the years I've not only spent a lot of time traveling to the more famous photogenic locations, but I've also spent lots of time exploring interesting out-of-the-way places that are far from the well-worn travel paths. It's amazing just how many cool places there are to photograph in this world! Finding those places though takes a lot of flying, driving and walking and I thought that I could save people a lot of time by sharing some of my favorite places--and there is no reason not to share great photographic locales.
In this blog I hope to address not only where some of my favorite places, but also when to go, where to stay, where to eat, what to bring and how to find the best photographic vantage points. If you're a photographer that likes to travel or a traveler that likes to take pictures (and I think I'm both), I think you'll find this a good resource. If you have any requests for specific areas or suggestions for places I can cover in the future, feel free to email me using the link at the top of the page.
By the way, in the upper left of this page you'll also find a link to my main website where you'll find lots of my photos, both digital photography and Photoshop tutorials and a great deal of other photographic information. You'll also find information there about my regular weekly programs on WPKN 89.5 FM in Bridgeport, Connecticut--the world's best noncommercial FM radio station. You'll also find a link in the upper left to my "Joy of Digital Photography" blog.
